I made my first 2 open source projects because I couldn’t find a free app that did what I needed to do.
For my first open source project I couldn’t find a free way to import (in my case) my Thunderbird email archive to Outlook, so I found a way to do it myself. I made it bare bones, and if it ever took off I could make it more accessible for normal people by introducing a frontend app. Read the README to understand it more: mbox-eml_to_outlook-converter-importer.
My second open source project was making an automatic Canvas archiver. This is a quick and simple Python tool for automating downloading ALL your Canvas courses, so you can store and archive them to preserve access to school materials. Optionally, it can also download any Google Drive file referenced in course modules (this needs extra setup). Read the README: canvas-archiver.
